FUCK timing belts. Especially on interference engines.

This is an interference engine, but its chain basically never breaks....ever.

nailed it. Trying to decide If mine will be looking like that soon, or if my funds will be going to new gears. of if I should just say "screw it" and drop 10k on a GM 6.5l turbo diesel swap or LS3/4L80e

Why no forced induction?

The TRD supercharger is a big letdown in the power department and it creates big heat issues. Turbo's are an option, but it would require a rebuilt anyway because of mileage (5k) plus 6k for the kit and then there is the heat issue again, so I'm up to 10-11k...might as well do diesel or gas v8 at that point so I don't have to get 11 mpg on premium gas.

I say stick with Toyota power, but that'll cost you a lot compared to a dead-simple GM engine and trans.

at the end of the day, I'm going to either do a rebuilt and keep it for another 241k miles, or sell it and buy a UZ100 with the 4.7 iForce V8. I love the simplicity and durability of these engines, I hate the mileage and total lack of power (relative to weight)

Can you find a 4.7L to swap in? I'm sure there should be several at local salvage yards.

Slee does 4.7 conversions, they are about $25k for a 60k motor and trans. You have to have it done right for compliance reasons.

my dream is a 1GZ-FE swap.

Kinja'd!!!

I have seen a few runners on ebay. its essentially 2 independent 2.5 liter I6 on a common crank (two seperate ecu's capable of running on left or right bank independently). its 276 hp (more like 310 dyno'd) and 355 ft-lbs with 300 of those on tap at 1200 rpm. It bolts to the A series 4 speed trans (same as mine) and isn't much longer or heavier.

Plus V12 land cruiser. Hells yes.

Those are quite rare, correct? That would be the ultimate swap in my opinion.

the only downside would be getting parts. but yeah, I would kill to swap this engine in. V12 land cruiser! big sump, low revving, reliable, high torque...its perfect, and its a Toyota to keep in the family.
